Carpet shampooers all perform the same task, but each model has its own unique operating system as well as a unique quirk or two. The Dirt Devil Easy Steamer upright carpet cleaner is an inexpensive household tool designed for easy use with minimal maintenance. Properly used, a Dirt Devil Easy Steamer can keep your carpets and rugs clean for a fresh, well-kept home .

Remove the furniture from carpeted areas you intend to clean.

Vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove any surface dirt, dust and pet hair. Run the vacuum cleaner over each portion of the floor at least twice, with additional attention to areas that might have accumulated dust or ground-in foot traffic. If your carpet shampooer has to suck this material up, it may be less effective at washing your carpet.

Press the release latch for the cleaning-solution container and swivel the container away from the Easy Steamer's base.

Unscrew the container's measuring cap. Pour two caps full of the recommended cleaning solution -- Dirt Devil Carpet & Rug Shampoo -- into the container. Then fill the balance of the container with hot tap water.

Screw the measuring cap firmly into place. Re-attach the cleaning-solution container to the Easy Steamer's base, bottom first, until it's firmly latched in place.

Plug the Easy Steamer into an electric outlet and flip its power switch, which is located on the handle, to the 'on' position. Step on the handle-release pedal located on the back of the Easy Steamer.

Roll the unit forward, then pull it back towards you while depressing the trigger on the handle. The trigger releases shampoo to the carpet.

Let go of the trigger and push the unit forward again to vacuum up the dirty shampoo water.

Repeat steps 7 and 8 across the entire surface of the carpet to be cleaned. Pay attention to the dirty water tank. If it becomes full before you've finished cleaning, you will need to empty it by pressing on its retaining latch and lifting it up with its handle. Remove the tank's lid and dispose of the dirty water, then re-attach the dirty water tank to the Easy Steamer. You may also need to refill the cleaning-solution container as before.

When you've finished cleaning, empty the dirty water tank and the cleaning-solution container rinse them clean with running water.

Tip
- Let the carpet dry completely before replacing furniture. Dry time can range between 15 minutes to two hours, depending on the room's temperature and humidity.
Warning
- If you have dogs or cats, be sure to vacuum as thoroughly as possible before using the shampooer. Any animal hair you miss during vacuuming may clog up your dirty water tank and require extra care when you're emptying the tank.
